Spendy weekend

While Jason was at annual training, one of the soldiers mentioned he might want to get a pedicure to take care of the wreck his feet had become after being forced into army boots for a solid two weeks. The soldier testified to the greatness of having a pedicure every once in a while, and Jason has known other soldiers to be pedi-positive as well. I saw my "in."

"I'll find a pedicure place and go with you if you want," I innocently encouraged. "We could do it this weekend." He didn't say no, so I started making plans. After all, I reasoned, I might as well get one done while I can still see my feet and appreciate it!

On Saturday, we headed to Christine's in Blue Springs. The girls that worked on us weren't too surprised when I said that Jason was getting a pedicure, but we definitely got some raised eyebrows when I picked pink polish for his toes. Jason just laughed and said it was his first time, so he might as well go big. After the pampering, I put my flip flops on, but Jason walked to the car barefoot because his polish wasn't dry.

It still wasn't dry by the time we got to the mall, but he put on his shoes and socks anyway. We ate at the brand-new Noodles and Company in the mall. I am so excited they finally opened a restaurant near us! We picked up some cheap clothes at Old Navy, grabbed a coffee at Barnes and Noble and got some ice cream from Cold Stone.

All in all it was an awesome Saturday!

Father's Day

This weekend Jason and I traveled north to Chillicothe to celebrate two special occasions: Father's Day and Grandpa's birthday, which is just around the corner. (I hope I look that good when I'm 84!) We also got to visit with Tracy and her kids, Madison and Luke, who were in from Washington.

After lunch and a birthday ice cream cake, we all trooped out to the shed for the main event. Madison coordinated teams of the younger people to compete against each other in "Minute to Win It" contests. See here for more photos. Then it was the "old people's" turn - siblings versus inlaws. After the games, a trophy was unceremoniously handed to Justin, as captain of the winning younger team, and then reclaimed and placed on the table. There never was a full awards ceremony. Instead, the youth adjourned to the yard for freeze tag, hide-n-seek, and later, hide the Presley in the basement.

Doctor appointment - 15 weeks

This is from our first ultrasound at nine weeks.
I had a doctor appointment on Monday. I'm a solid 15 weeks. When I weighed in, they wanted to double-check it because the scale said I had been losing weight. I could have told them that! Apparently all my sickness has caused me to lose between 8-10 pounds. My appetite is coming back, though, but as my doctor kindly pointed out, I had some weight to give. We listened to the baby's heartbeat on the Doppler again and heard it moving around. I couldn't feel it then, but today as I write this, I have felt some movement that I am sure is the baby. I felt a few blips in the past, but couldn't say they were the baby for sure. Today I am positive and that makes me happy! It all seems a little more real now.

I am still alive!

I know I've been absent for a while, but I've had good reason. I have been sick. Super-duper sick. In fact, I have been missing work like crazy because of it. Don't worry, though. I've gone to the doctor, and the sickness should be subsiding soon. (Anyway, I sure hope so!) As it turns out, I'm pregnant! Baby Stapp is due in November, which means I'm just out of my first trimester. We're not really mentioning it on Facebook, so this blog is your go-to source for pregnancy progression. My next appointment is June 7, and the anatomy ultrasound will be scheduled in July. As of right now, we will not be finding out our baby's gender. I think it will be a fun surprise!
